Consultation of Future of Public Sector Broadcasting
The government has announced a consultation on the future of public sector broadcasting. This is a great opportunity to promote the idea of co-operative ownership of the broadcast media, in particular a co-operatively-owned RTE. We will make further announcements as we find out the details. In the meantime if any members have an interest, knowledge or experience in radio and television, we would like your views on how this could be done.
Dublin Food Co-operative Christmas Party
The Dublin Food Co-op have extended an invitation to all SCSI members to their Christmas Party and Co-operator Networking Event (run with the support of ICOS) to be held on the 12th December from 19.00 to 23.00 at the Inchicore Sports and Social Club. It’ll be a great opportunity to meet like-minded co-operators in a convivial and informal atmosphere, and share ideas and aspirations for 2020 and beyond.
Irish Supporters Forum
On Saturday 16th November the FAI convened a forum for Supporters Groups in Ireland, one of which was the Irish Supporters Network. The Network represents supporters co-operatives who either own their clubs, or are taking steps to do so. It is clear from the discussions that football in Ireland would benefit greatly from more co-operatives at all levels of organisation. For more info contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Update 12/12/19 The recent news of the demise of Limerick FC shows the urgency of addressing the ownership of professional sport, especially football (soccer) in Ireland. The current ownership model is no longer fit-for-purpose.
